Squadron rocks Mokokchung for a noble cause

ImageMOKOKCHUNG JUL 11: High profile rock band ‘The Squadron’ performed live on stage last evening at Imkongmeren Sports Complex Mokokchung showing that the band is still impressive in performing Rock concert as the Gen-X and Hip Hop fans danced to the rock tunes played for almost 3 hours. The band, since its inception in early 90s, has done many beneficial shows to help the society. Now with ever raging economic meltdown affecting the masses, Squadron has ventured out after a long gap of 15 years to tour Nagaland with the slogan ‘Save a Life’. Band manager Lima and advertisement and programme secretary Meren stated that this tour will enable the poor and underprivileged social groups to tackle their health care expenses. The fund derived from the tour will be re-allocated to poor patients and the needy through medical Supervisor assisted by the event partners from all the districts. They also stated that the altruistic band and the management team are initiating this mega tour with a noble motive to repay the society for the support they have shown during the determining years of the Squadron Saga.

The band also launched its official website, www.squadrononline.com. This will disseminate information of the tour as well as to promote the band. They stated that the band’s original song ‘Victim of Death’ has already been uploaded in the website. They also stated the next tour will be on 23 July at Mon. The band had performed 386 concerts all over the country including Goa, Chennai, Pondicherry, Guwahati, Bhopal, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Nagaland and has emerged as one of the most influential bands in India's rock talent bowl - the North East. Fuelled by the early success, the band spent the late 90s touring the country extensively building a fan following across the nation, some of who still lingers on to this day. But the band members were getting no younger and by the dawn of the new millennium, a depleting economy soon began to take its toll. With the impeding eventuality of an alternate income source looming large, the members went on their own ways to earn their livelihood. Though the band was still not disbanded, the shows soon became fewer. Fortunately, members meet occasionally to perform small shows, mostly acoustic. Most of the members are employed in the music industry and despite the dwindling number of shows, the band has only emerged more refined, mature and creative.
