Squadron is the longest surviving band in the State and was officially formed in1990 by Bassist K. Lanu. John Walling on vocal, Mar on Drums and O. Temsu and Bendang on guitar. After two years John found his true calling and left the band to pursue his studies and was replaced by Wati. The band had performed 386 concerts all over the country including Goa, Chennai, Pondicherry, Guwahati, Bhopal, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Nagaland and has emerged as one of the most influential band in India's rock talent bowl - the Northeast.
The formative years of Squadron were spent performing regularly at the state's local music circuit. Then in the summer of 1993, Squadron became the only band from Nagaland to ever win a Nation wide open beat contest. On the way to Goa to represent Nagaland in a cultural show, the band stayed over at Chennai. As fate could have it, India's premier Information Technological College IIT, was holding its annual national rock beat contest at that time. Armed with only Yahuya guitars (A Musical Instrument Brand Based in Nagaland), the band took on the bests of India and eventually went on to win the contest.
Fueled by the early success, the band spent the late 90s touring the country extensively building a fan following across the nation, some of who still lingers on to this day. But the band members were getting no younger and by the dawn of the new millennium, a depleting economy soon began to take its toll. With the impeding eventuality of and alternate income source looming large, the members went on their own ways to earn their livelihood. Though the band was still not disbanded, the shows soon became fewer. Fortunately, none of the members fell on hard times and meet occasionally to perform small shows, mostly acoustic. Most of the members are employed in the music industry and despite the dwindling number of shows the band has only emerged more refined, matured and creative.
